Test
fixtures are an essential part of any production line testing process.
They are the direct link to the test system itself.
By using quality test fixtures you will ensure high levels of
accuracy and repeatability. At
ESW we understand this and engineer test fixtures that will work
flawlessly with your test system. Our
primary concerns are to maintain a Kelvin connection to the part and
minimize tooling change downtime.
Both
right-handers and left-handers are able to use these fixtures with ease.

Clip
Blocks
Our standard clip block
design can accommodate most parts. The Kelvin clip block is spring
loaded. It continues to receive
excellent reviews from our customers, particularly the operators.
The spring loaded lever
makes it easy for the operator to load and unload the parts. They simply
push back on the proper lever and insert or remove the lead.

Standard
& Adjustable V-Blocks
To prevent tipping and
movement of the parts, they are placed onto a fixture. This fixture makes loading and
unloading of a part safer and easier for your operators. Our
Engineering staff will review your parts and design a fixture that will
best accommodate them.
Our standard block is
adjustable to accommodate your various parts. To adjust the block, the
operator loosens two wing nuts, adjusts the posts to the desired width
and tightens down the nuts. The parts are loaded into the block by
sliding it between the two (2) posts.
Also available is our
adjustable V-Block. This design permits the part to merely sit on top of
the block. It provides the stability needed without the task of
inserting the part between two posts. If rotation testing is performed,
a V-block fixture can be mounted on ball bearing slides. The part is
placed on the V-Block, pigtail connectors are hooked up to the part and
the complete fixture slides the part over the Rotation Probe.

Quick
Change Test Fixtures
The Quick Change Test
Fixture makes changing from one part to another quick and simple.
With our unique design you can change in a little as 60 seconds.
This test
fixture design
uses two (2) separate parts; a base contact pad and a test socket top.
Base Contact Pad remains permanently mounted to the testers
workstation.
-
Wire
movement has been eliminated thus reducing the potential for broken
or damaged wires.
-
The
wires terminated with a wire connector that grips the insulation,
which assists in preventing wire breakage at the solder connection.
-
Never
has to be removed from your workstation.
Test
Socket Top (shown on right with an attached locator assembly) is where the armature is actually inserted. The
tops are removable and interchangeable. Tops consists of a donut, Kelvin contact pins, a centering
bushing and
cover. It is placed on top of the base contact pad and is held in place
with two (2) bolts. This test socket top is easily removed
and the center bushings can be changed quickly and easily without
worrying about wire breakage; as there are
no wires exposed.
- Kelvin connection is maintained.
- A mar-free commutator connection is
maintained.
- Design accommodates the testing of
two or more parts with different commutator bars (ie: 8 and 16, 10
and 20, or 12 and 24).
- The contact pins have a leading edge
angle of 30° followed by an angle of 7° to allow for easy
insertion of the commutator and to make contact with the leading
edge only. This not only reduces pin wear it also eliminates
any markings on the brush tracks of the commutator.
- Pins are constructed of a hardened steel to
reduce wear.
- The symmetrical shape enables the right and
left pins to be interchanged. This eliminates the need to stock
more than one type of pin. The pins can also be turned over and
used again. This doubles the life of each contact pin. When
one pin becomes damaged or worn, only that pin will need replacing.
- Replacement for other manufacturers
test sockets.
- Mechanical reliability.
- Pneumatic version is also available.
- The
quick-change test sockets can accommodate a 2mm change in commutator
diameters.
This test fixture
model is cost effective and easy to use. When parts are added to
production only the top needs to be replaced, not the entire fixture.

Automatic
Test Fixtures
Automatic
test fixtures are designed for both manual load/unload testers and fully
automatic on-line testers. They are custom designed to
specifically fit your automatic line. The test head can either move to
the part or the part can move to the fixture, depending on your
requirements.
Complete
handling of the part can be obtained by mounting the test head to a
slide assembly, index assembly and a lift block. Or an operator
can manually load a part into a V-Block Assembly (see V-blocks shown
above) and then move the slide into the socket.
Index assemblies are
adjustable to handle various size shafts.

Pneumatic
Test Fixtures
The pneumatic test
fixtures are designed for both manual load/unload testers and fully
automatic on-line testers. The fixtures are interchangeable with our
existing quick change fixtures from our Models 2000, 5000 and 6000
series testers.
Customers
who are currently using our removable or quick change test fixtures can
be converted to the pneumatic test fixtures at any time.
The
pneumatic test fixture accommodates a 6 mm change in commutator
diameters.
The pogo pins are air activated.

| 10TJ
Armature Test Fixture
|
|
The
model 10TJ is a universal armature test fixture which will accommodate
most armatures. The adjustable V-Block and contact probes allow
quick set-up and testing of various sizes and types.
The test fixture is
equipped with three dual pin contact probes. This enables you to
set up for both End-to-End and Bar-to-Bar measurements. A toggle
switch on the fixture base selects the mode of operation.
The contact probes are
dual pin (Kelvin) for low resistance measurements. The Kelvin dual
pin system provides one pin for the current path, while the other
provides a circuit path for sensing.
